AUS-VIC-BELLARINE-PENINSULA

UPDATED August 2006 to reflect changes to Rootsweb Mailing List software

How to Subscribe and Unsubscribe

It's easy -- just click on the list you want below. When the "mail-to" window pops up, type just the single word "subscribe" in the SUBJECT FIELD and BODY of the message. That's all - you don't need the quotation marks, just the word inside them!

If you want to unsubscribe from a list, click on the relevant list below and type just the single word "unsubscribe" in the SUBJECT FIELD and BODY of the message.   (You don't need the quotation marks, just the word inside them! )

bullet AUS-VIC-BELLARINE-PENINSULA-L-request@rootsweb.com - Mail (List) mode - if you subscribe to the list in this mode, you receive each message as a separate email.

bulletAUS-VIC-BELLARINE-PENINSULA-D-request@rootsweb.com - Digest mode - if you subscribe to the list in this mode, you receive a group of messages batched together in one mail.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: Please make sure that you are sending in PLAIN TEXT otherwise your subscription to the Mailing List will not work.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: You cannot subscribe to both modes with the SAME email address - you must have a different email address for each mode.

Remember that your subscribe / unsubscribe message may still be sitting in your email outbox until you actually send it.   You will know if you've successfully subscribed as you'll receive a "Welcome" email back.

Clicking on either of the above options should bring up your email box for you to send a message - if your system doesn't work that way, then open your email system and send an email to the relevant address above with the word subscribe / unsubscribe as required.  If all else fails, ask for help!

How to Send Messages

Once you've successfully subscribed to the list, you can send messages.  Instructions on how to do this were in your "Welcome message" but if you can't find that, just click on this address and send us your message ...

Area / Towns covered

This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in family, local and regional history relating to the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, Australia.  The area covered by this list includes the following :-

Local Archives

The following are a couple of major sources of records and information for the Bellarine Peninsula :-

bulletBellarine Historical Society Inc.
bulletQueenscliffe Historical Museum Inc.
bulletGeelong Heritage Centre (formerly Geelong Historical Records Centre)

The Queenscliffe Historical Museum caters specifically for the towns of Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale.

The Bellarine Historical Society caters for all the towns mentioned above - obviously our Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale collection is very small compared to the Queenscliffe Historical Society but they are not excluded from our Indexes and records.

The Geelong Heritage Centre inherited a lot of the key records from the Shire of Bellarine following the amalgamation / takeover into the City of Greater Geelong.   The Bellarine Historical Society has some copies of these records and photos in their collection, but more importantly we have indexes to many of the collections.

Obviously I will be encouraging everyone to make use of the Research facilities at the Bellarine Historical Society - either personally or via Research Requests.  The Society desperately needs your support to continue its great work of collection, cataloguing and indexing the records that just might bet the ones you're looking for.

Indexes at the Bellarine Historical Society

The Bellarine Historical Society has many indexes and references for people and places on the Peninsula.  See our list of Holdings for more information.

There are also more than 500,000 entries in the Geelong & District On-line Indexes and Files.
